Burks Echols started tutoring for Marks Education in 2017 with more than twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience. With degrees from UVA, UR, and VCU, Burks combines his academic training and teaching experience to help students achieve their highest potential in a broad range of academic areas. He helped his own children navigate the standardized testing gauntlet on their successful journeys to college, so he empathizes with other students on the same path.
Burks has extensive experience tutoring the “alphabet soup” of standardized tests and has helped thousands of students achieve success over the course of more than two decades. Insights gained from eclectic reading habits, broad musical interests, and extensive travel provide Burks with numerous access points to students’ interests. Also, years of experience working on archaeological sites in Sicily and Virginia have taught Burks the values of patience and attention to detail that he shares with students.
Burks is an ardent hiker and enjoys spending time in the mountains with family and friends whenever schedules and weather allow. To date, Burks has hiked over half of the Appalachian Trail, and he likes to explain to students how most academic challenges are like a long- distance hike; you complete one small step after another in order to reach a rewarding goal. And, once you get to your destination – a beautiful view from the top of a mountain or the successful completion of an academic challenge – you are certain that all the hard work was worth it.
Burks is available to work with students in-person in McLean or via Zoom anywhere in the world.
