Angela Pirko has been a tutor and teacher for over a decade, and has in her time taught age levels from kindergarten through college graduates, and a variety of subjects such as the SAT, ACT, PSAT, SSAT, ISEE, SHSAT, and many levels of ELA and Math courses. Her style is encouraging, energetic, and humorous – she is a big believer in making education fun, no matter what material a student is facing.
Angela attended the University of Virginia where she graduated with Distinction; she is also a Phi Beta Kappa scholar. She first encountered tutoring working as a volunteer in her Richmond hometown assisting grade-school children with math and reading. She then went on to peer tutor her fellow classmates in college in the pre-medical science courses and calculus. She made her way to DC in 2011 and joined the team at Applerouth Tutoring, rising swiftly through their ranks to achieve Premium Tutor status in under a year and Tutor Services Manager of the New York office not long after that, where she not only continued to work with students but also trained fellow tutors on the materials and practices of teaching test preparation. Since she became a full-time tutor, she has helped several hundred students to meet their college test score goals. She has also worked with students with learning differences and other neurodivergencies.
Angela is a big believer in individualized education. Every person has a unique way they learn best, and so education must always work around how a student best interacts with material. She is a highly adaptable tutor who engages with passion and encouragement at all times, and who genuinely cares about her students as people beyond their time working together.
Angela is a member of the DC theatre community as a director and actor, and is resident director of Nu Sass Productions, an independent theatre focused on the promotion of women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and intersectional color-aware engagement in the arts. She is also an avid reader and writer, and a very poor ukulele player.
