Burks Echols is a test prep tutor with Marks Education Test Prep Tutoring. With degrees from the University of Virginia (BA), the University of Richmond (JD), and Virginia Commonwealth University (MT) combined with more than twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience, Burks helps students achieve to their highest potential in a broad range of academic areas. Also, with children of his own currently navigating high school and the standardized testing gauntlet, Burks combines his years of experience with personal insights into the challenges that today’s students face.
Burks has wide-ranging experience tutoring the “alphabet soup” of standardized tests and has helped thousands of students achieve success over the course of more than two decades. Insights gained from eclectic, or perhaps eccentric, reading habits and extensive travel throughout North America, Japan, and Europe provide Burks with numerous access points to students’ interests. Also, years of experience working on archaeological sites in Sicily and Virginia have taught Burks the values of patience and attention to detail that he constantly shares with students.
Burks is an ardent hiker and enjoys spending time in the mountains with family and friends whenever schedules and weather allow. To date, Burks has hiked over half of the Appalachian Trail, and he likes to explain to students how most academic challenges are similar to a long- distance hike; you complete one small step after another in order to reach a rewarding goal. And, once you get to your destination – a beautiful view from the top of a mountain or the successful completion of an academic challenge – you are certain that all the hard work was worth it.
