Ellie Koo joined Marks Education after more than ten years of teaching and tutoring students in the U.S. and abroad in writing, English, SAT, PSAT, SSAT, ISEE, TOEFL, and SAT II subject tests. She has worked with a broad range of learning styles and has helped students achieve scores they feel proud of, no matter what their starting point.
Ellie encourages students to switch gears from passive learning to approaching topics with the mindset of identifying objectives and trends and applying effective problem-solving skills to take command of what they learn. With each session, students hone effective study habits to tackle both test prep and schoolwork.
From her many years of test-taking, Ellie has found that the best way to handle test-day jitters is to minimize them preemptively through preparedness and a well-practiced strategy for approaching even the toughest of questions. She emphasizes a targeted process for various problem types that helps students find the easy and efficient way to solve the question. The goal is that come test day, the confidence of being prepared exceeds any anxiety.
Ellie grew up in northern Virginia and graduated from W.T. Woodson. She scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT when in high school and was a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist and an American Academy of Achievement Salute to Excellence Program Honor Student. She went on to study East Asian languages at universities in Hawaii, South Korea, and China and earned a B.A. in Economics from Pennsylvania State University. She is currently a post-baccalaureate pre-medical student at Georgetown University.
