Katharine specializes in
Katharine Laco joined Marks Education Test Prep Tutoring in 2016. She has worked in education since graduating magna cum laude from Davidson College in 2010. At Davidson, she earned a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Mathematics while also playing for their Division I soccer team. She remains a lifelong athlete and enjoys balancing intellectual and athletic pursuits.
Katharine has taught and tutored in a variety of academic settings including a rural Guatemalan school, a New England boarding school, and local independent schools: Georgetown Day and Holton-Arms. She enjoys working with students of all ages and levels and has a particular fondness for tutoring math. One of Katharine’s favorite aspects of math is that while each problem often has one correct answer, there can be many ways to reach it. In her teaching, she introduces multiple problem solving strategies and encourages students to explore which makes most sense for them.
Katharine tutors all levels of math, the PSAT, SAT, ACT, HSPT, SSAT, ISEE, and SAT Subject Tests in Math, Literature, and Spanish. As a Bethesda native and Walt Whitman graduate, she easily relates to students as she understands the pace and pressures of growing up in the DC metro area. Katharine often finds that the connections she makes with students are more important than any content she teaches.

What our clients say about Katharine
I highly recommend Katharine Laco for college prep tutoring. She is extremely professional and effective in working with and motivating teens who are under a lot of stress and pressure. Katharine has a knack for zeroing in on areas for improvement, assigning the right amount of homework, and explaining strategy and tactics to improve scores. We felt my daughter reached her potential for test results, which is the best possible outcome.— Luanne G. Alexandria, Va.
