With the Early Decision II rounds coming to a close this month, we wanted to share with you the trends we are seeing as well as our students’ successes.
Trends
In the last few years, we’ve seen a trend of much larger application pools, especially as test optional policies were adopted at the beginning of the pandemic. As we recently covered, universities are starting to re-evaluate their test optional policies, and many are returning to requiring test scores. This change in admissions requirements seems to have affected the application pools at some schools this year. Brown University, in their first year requiring test scores from applicants since the beginning of the pandemic, saw their Early Decision pool decrease 19%. Similarly, Yale University saw their Single Choice Early Action pool shrink by 14% after going back to requiring test scores.
Requiring scores, however, doesn’t necessarily mean lower application pools. We’ve recently seen a lot of interest in large, southern schools, many of which require test scores. The University of Texas at Austin reported their applications were up 24%, including an increase of 48% of out-of-state applicants. University of Georgia saw a 14% increase in their Early Action applications, and Emory University had 22% more Early Decision I applications compared to last year.
Results at Marks Education
Tracking changes in the admissions landscape helps inform the work we do every year. Our goal is for students to take strategic, layered approaches to application timing so they can get good news early in the process, which we find lowers stress. This year, over 96% of our Senior Comprehensive clients received good news in Early Decision I and II, Early Action, and/or Rolling admissions pools.
Below is a list of the 82 schools to which our students have been admitted so far this year. We have our fingers crossed for more good news to come in the next month.
