Molly Lachut joined Marks Education in 2024 following ten years at Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland. As the Director of College Counseling at Saint James, Molly focused on relationship-driven counseling, understanding that advocacy occurs most successfully when students and counselors share trust and values. The college search process is inherently a personal and vulnerable experience, so she works hard to ensure that students and families are able to engage in meaningful reflection and eventually find joy in the application process.

As a former history teacher, dorm head, and field hockey and softball coach at an independent boarding school, Molly knows the stressors placed upon young people in today’s world from all angles. She strives to get to know each student and family beyond transcripts and SAT scores so that she can help students craft applications that fully reflect who they are as learners, but also as volunteers, friends, and community members.

After growing up in northern New Hampshire, Molly attended St. Johnsbury Academy, an independent boarding and day school in Vermont, before heading to Kenyon College, where she played both field hockey and softball. Because of her own experiences, Molly believes in the power of college athletics and particularly enjoys helping students navigate the intricacies of the college recruiting process. In her free time, Molly loves to travel and do puzzles, but can more often be found exploring in the woods with her young son.

Molly is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC). In 2024, she earned PCACAC’s Leadership Education Certificate. She is available to meet with students virtually and in person at the McLean, VA, Bethesda, MD, and Washington, DC offices of Marks Education.
