Rachel Dan joined Marks Education in 2021, bringing her diverse background and passion for education to the team. Prior to joining Marks, Rachel worked in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she gained valuable experience in understanding the intricacies of policy and advocating for positive change. Her commitment to making a difference in the lives of students led her to embark on a new journey in the field of education.
With a strong academic foundation in neuroscience and creative writing from Oberlin College, as well as psychology from Maastricht University, Rachel combines her scientific knowledge with her love for language and creativity. She has conducted research in biology and neurophysiology laboratories, and her achievements were recognized when she was inducted into the prestigious National Honor Society in Neuroscience in 2017.
Rachel’s tutoring expertise extends across a range of subjects, including mathematics, chemistry, psychology, and standardized test preparation such as the ACT, SAT, and SSAT. She approaches each tutoring session understanding that every student learns differently and has unique strengths waiting to be unlocked. Rachel’s patient and tailored approach empowers her students not only to improve their grades but also to develop a genuine understanding of the subject matter and to build confidence in their abilities.
Beyond the classroom, Rachel’s interests are as diverse as her professional pursuits. A native of Washington, D.C., Rachel enjoys hunting for fossils along the Chesapeake coast, uncovering remnants of ancient life and connecting with the natural world. She finds solace in the depths of the ocean, indulging her passion for scuba diving and exploring the wonders beneath the surface. When she’s not at the beach, Rachel engages in artistic endeavors, finding inspiration in drawing and painting. She also delights in teaching her cat, Lucky, new tricks.
Rachel is available to work with students virtually and in-person at the Washington, D.C. and McLean, VA offices of Marks Education.
