Educational Planning with Test Prep and Academic Tutoring

Successful Educational Planning

Marks Education offers web-based and in-person test prep and academic tutoring services for almost all U.S. standardized tests including the ACT, SAT, PSAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, SSAT, HSPT, and ISEE. We tutor for most academic subjects, and we also advise students on study skills.

Tailored Test Prep and Academic Tutoring.

We customize our approach to each student’s needs, using a baseline test to deconstruct strengths and weaknesses. Over a free 30-minute consult, we then lay out a plan to achieve the maximum score improvement in the least possible amount of time.

On average, our students see us for a total of 13-17 tutoring sessions, which take them through up to two administrations of a standardized test. This compares with 30-50 sessions recommended by many of our competitors. Our students leave each tutoring session feeling happier and more confident than when they came in. They achieve verified industry leading score improvements on every test we tutor.

Virtual  Test Prep Tutoring

Since 2006, we have used Skype tutoring, Google Hangout tutoring, FaceTime tutoring and interactive whiteboards to tutor students across the United States, in 18 different countries, and for seven top-notch schools and educational non-profits.

Useful Tutoring Resources.

An Inside Look at Admission and Testing News
Applying to College During a Pandemic

What Have We Learned from the 2020-2021 Admissions Cycle? When COVID-19 struck in March 2020, more than 1,600 colleges and universities across America, including all of the Ivies and most highly-selective institutions, declared a test-optional policy for the 2020-2021 admissions cycle. This presented a unique opportunity for applicants everywhere, and (not only in retrospect but… Read more »

We highly recommend Marks Education and truly believe you will find them wonderful to work with. We only hope that they have the opportunity to help your child as they did ours.

— Dale and Katharine Powell, McLean, VA

The skilled professionals at Marks Education gave us tailored, comprehensive, strategic care and support throughout the grueling U.S. college application and admission process. Not only did our son dramatically boost his grades and test scores, but he also improved his study skills and overall confidence.

— Margaret Lau, Hong Kong

Our experience at Marks Education was exceptional across the board. Ryan Blodgett did an outstanding job of preparing my son for the ACT and the SAT Math 2 Subject test. Highly recommend.

— Cheryl Battan, Bethesda, MD

Dan Hertz has been an energetic, effective, and invigorating math tutor for our daughter Vanessa. Not only has he reviewed, clarified, and taught key concepts clearly and concisely, but he has also offered constant guidance and provided positive reinforcement regarding the necessity of good sleep and nutrition habits.

— Vivian Moore, Washington, DC

When our daughter saw the results of her SATs she exclaimed, “Nitin is a god!” While we wouldn’t put it that way, we were equally happy, not only with the SAT and AP outcomes, but also watching our daughter approach the tests with calm confidence instead of high stress.

— Mary Lou Steptoe and Peter Carson, Chevy Chase, MD

I am thrilled with the results of Dan Bloss’ ACT tutoring and wholeheartedly recommend him to any college bound student who wants to significantly increase his or her scores!

— Kevin Gardner, Washington, DC

Shaun Stiemsma is really a gem! Not only is he knowledgeable and exceptionally talented in what he does but also a good man. No wonder the kids do so well!

— Silvija Kancans, St. Paul, MN

Our 11 year old just loved Kate and her patience and skills at teaching her how to take the SSAT. . . Most importantly, our daughter retook the SSAT two more times and her scores improved each time which helped her get accepted into all three schools to which she applied.

— Dale and Katharine Powell, McLean, VA

Thank you, Anthony . . . I can tell that you genuinely care about your students, the characteristic that separates a good teacher from the rest. I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, working with you.

— Nick Gonzales, Freeport, MI

I am extremely pleased and grateful for Marks Education and their tutors Eddy and Sarah. Both have helped my son not only get his grades up, but they have helped him to get organized, focused, and thinking beyond what is due tomorrow.

— Jennifer Hirshon, Potomac, MD

Sarah helped me develop techniques that allowed me to manage my time during the test and avoid making common, unnecessary mistakes. The score I received on my most previous ACT was a whole five points higher than my first score. I could not be happier with my experience at Marks Education.

— Jenna Barufka, Reston, VA

What Makes Our Test Prep Tutoring Program Different?

We are full-time, experienced educators and also top notch test takers.
Marks Education test prep tutors have hundreds of hours of successful teaching experience, and we understand diverse learning styles and challenges. We take the actual tests we tutor with our students and score in the top 1%.  Meet our team!

We get the best results.
On average, our students improved 340 points on the SAT over the past seven years, measured from official PSATs. Our improvements on the ACT were even greater, and score improvements on other tests were just as strong. Every student who has had at least six sessions is included in our statistics; please review our results and methodology.

We have the most satisfied clients.
On our client satisfaction surveys, 97 to 100% of our respondents say they are happy with every aspect of our work, from our mastery of the material to our relationships with our students. This includes students at all levels, from around the world, and with a variety of learning styles.

We use the most carefully designed test prep materials.
We use proprietary, custom-designed materials for each test we tutor. Our Marks Prep books, our vocabulary and reading resources, and our practice tests teach both the most efficient strategies for each student and the content of each test we tutor.

More than 96% of parents surveyed last year rated their children’s score improvements as “excellent” or “very good.”

Our most recent results? Seniors improved an average of 7.0 ACT and 342 SAT points (on the old SAT) after tutoring.

100% of our clients approved of all aspects of our work, including students’ score improvements, tutors’ communications with parents, and the quality of the tutor-student relationship, according to a 2015 survey.

LSAT students have improved an average of 14 points (2009-2015).

GMAT students have improved an average of 75 points (2009-2015).

GRE students have improved an average of 9.5 points (2009-2015).

Marks Education students improve their SAT and ACT scores by 3 to 5 times the national average, and other test results are just as strong.

For the class of 2017, average ACT scores for all students rose 5.9 points and average SAT scores rose 270 points. All improvements were measured from baseline 11th grade PSATs or actual SATs.

Our Results

Every year we track our students’ improvement across tests. Click here find the SAT and ACT improvement data, listed by year, for students who finished standardized testing in a particular year.

Marks Education works with students with a very wide range of incoming scores, and we are very proud of the improvements made by all of our students, even by those who came to us already scoring in the range for National Merit awards on the PSAT. We are also proud of the fact that we calculate our improvement only from official College Board and ACT tests, not tests that we manufacture.

Marks Education Tutoring results are achieved by working closely with parents and students. Tips on what to eat before a test, or how much sleep should you get before you take a test? We care about your success!

To our knowledge, no other test prep company has achieved consistent, verifiable average improvements of this caliber.
