Class of 2025 Score Improvements
For the last fifteen years, Marks Education has collected score improvement data for every test preparation student with whom we have worked for six or more tutoring sessions. Collecting score improvement data allows us to accurately gauge the efficacy of our tutoring methods and make adaptations as necessary. Our score improvement data for the Class of 2025 is now in!
For the Class of 2025, students working with tutors at Marks Education were able to increase their test scores by an average of 166 points on the SAT and by an average of 5.7 points on the ACT. These increases are almost identical to the score improvements for the Class of 2024, even though the SAT switched from a paper test to a shorter digital test in early 2024. In fact, our average SAT score improvements increased from 163 to 166 points, while our average ACT score improvements went up by a tenth of a point from 5.6 to 5.7 points. The table above shows our students’ average ACT and SAT score improvements for the past five years.
Score Improvements at all Levels
While average score improvements are useful as an overall guide of how we are doing, even more useful for parents and students are our banded score improvements. The table below shows score improvements based on the starting points of our students.
One of the most notable trends in our data are the significant score improvements achieved by students with lower starting baseline scores. For the Class of 2025, students with initial SAT scores between 950 – 1050 had an average score improvement of 200 points. Those starting with ACT scores between 18-20 gained an average of 7.2 points. Obviously, those students starting at a lower baseline score have more room for gains than those starting with much higher scores. Nevertheless, even those students coming in with extremely strong baseline scores achieved impressive score growth. Students who had starting SAT scores between 1450-1520 were able to improve by 53 points on average; ACT students starting with scores in the 33-34 range gained 2.8 points on average.

Measurable Tutoring Outcomes
In order to accurately track score improvements, we ask all our students to take a proctored baseline SAT or ACT when we first start working with them. Our tutors use official tests released by the College Board or ACT as our baseline tests, but if a student comes to us after taking an official test, we’ll use that test score as the baseline. Final scores always come from official tests offered on national or school day test dates.
We use superscoring for final scores which aligns with the majority of college admission practices and highlights the best performance of students. Superscoring permits students to create a composite score from only their highest section scores from different test dates.
