Middle School

Educational Planning

The transition to high school is a big one. With more choices for classes and extracurricular activities, it helps to plan ahead. Marks Education helps middle school students chart an academic plan for high school, honing in on the subjects and extracurriculars they enjoy, while recognizing the importance of maintaining a good sleep schedule and establishing strong study habits. We often start with students in 8th grade and see them through high school.

For a student who already knows where they will be attending 9th grade, our counselors help with course selection and offer advice on how to begin developing authentic interests inside and outside the classroom.

For families who are deciding between different schools for 9th grade, we help evaluate the specific opportunities offered at different schools and assist with mapping out course selection at those schools.

  • High school course selection
  • Extracurricular activities that align with student interests
  • Taking advantage of opportunities in high school to prepare you for college applications

Standardized Test Prep: SSAT/ISEE/HSPT
Students applying to independent and religious schools are often required to submit their results from standardized tests such as the SSAT, ISEE or HSPT. These tests are quite different from the tests students take in school; many questions have tricky wording, unfamiliar formats, and obscure material. Additionally, many elementary or middle schoolers who already attend independent schools have little experience with high-stakes standardized tests.
Academic Tutoring

Every student has a unique learning style with different strengths and weaknesses, but we firmly believe each has the potential to excel. Marks Education tutors are full-time educators with extensive classroom and tutoring experience. Let us help support your child in Math, English, Science, History/Social Studies, Writing Skills, Reading comprehension, Spanish as well as study skills.
