Measurable Tutoring Outcomes
We track the progress of all students who’ve engaged in six or more test preparation sessions with Marks Education tutors. We ask students to take a practice proctored SAT or ACT® so that we have baseline scores before tutoring begins. We use official tests released by the College Board or ACT®, Inc. as our baseline tests. For final scores, we use scores students obtain in an official sitting of the ACT® or SAT. We use superscoring for final scores which aligns with college admission practices and highlights the best performance of students.
Collecting score improvement data allows us to accurately gauge the efficacy of our tutoring methods and make adaptations as necessary. It’s important to us that we deliver test taking strategies and content review that ensures students improve and do their personal best on test day.
Summary of Student Achievements
We’re so proud to say that our students have consistently shown significant improvements this year, something we understand to be a testament to the effectiveness of our personalized tutoring sessions and the drive of our students to do well on their exams. The Class of 2024 was no exception!
Consistent Improvement for both ACT® and SAT Test Takers:
Over the years, we have observed consistent improvement by our students on both the SAT and ACT®. For the past five years, our students have increased their ACT® scores by an average of between 5.6 and 5.8 points. In 2024, students improved their ACT® scores by 5.6 points. In the same time period, our students have consistently increased their SAT scores between 125-162 points. In 2024, we saw our highest SAT score gains: a 162 point average improvement. Through a combination of learning effective test taking strategies, mastering content and practicing using real tests, our students are able to feel confident they can do their best on test day.
Remarkable Gains for Lower Starting Scores:
One of the most notable trends in our data are the significant score improvements achieved by students with lower starting baseline scores. Students with initial SAT scores below 950 or ACT® scores below 17 have shown average test score improvements exceeding 270 on the SAT and 10 points on the ACT®.
Thanks to a combination of test taking strategies, effective test prep, and homework, our students have been able to attain scores that help them stand out at college application time. So, if you’re a student looking for ACT® or SAT tutoring to help boost your score, consider working with a Marks Education tutor.
Steady Progress for High Achievers:
Students with high baseline scores have also seen consistent improvements. It can be hard to tip the scale that extra bit when you’re already at the top, but tutors at Marks Education find a way. Students with initial SAT scores above 1450 and ACT® scores above 33, have shown impressive score improvement averages of over 60 points for the SAT and 2 points for the ACT®.
