If you’re looking to get ahead before the new school year, summer should not just be a time for relaxation and vacations. Through our 12-session program, students can reinforce their current math abilities or build new skills in preparation for Algebra 1, Advanced Placement BC Calculus, or anything in between. Our Summer Math Program is designed to meet students at their level of understanding and build from there.
We started our Summer Math Program over the pandemic to address the learning gaps parents and students were noticing as a result of online instruction. However, due to its popularity and effectiveness, we’ve adapted it over the years while still remaining true to its core commitment of personalized education and tailored assistance. For the past two decades, we’ve built a name for ourselves delivering customized and effective academic advising and tutoring to students around the world. Our Summer Programs are no exception, and are celebrated by parents and students alike.
The Foundation of Our Program
Our summer program starts by pairing each student with an experienced tutor to work with. Their tutor will be chosen for their expertise in the math subject area that the student needs most, but also personality and learning style. This match is followed by a complimentary, 30-minute consultation with the tutor to develop a personalized plan for the sessions that will follow. These sessions depend largely on what kind of instruction the student needs most and can be structured around bolstering the student’s present understanding of the past year’s material, introducing upcoming topics, or both, depending on the student’s needs and goals.
A large part of our instruction involves linking core math concepts to the student’s interests, whether that be economic principles, sports statistics, design, etc. This knowledge comes as a result of organically getting to know your student and their interests. By understanding what captivates and motivates our students outside of academics, we make the sometimes-abstract world of math more relatable and engaging in the long run.
Time Requirements
When scheduling, we recommend spreading your sessions across six weeks to allow for the ideal level of absorption and reflection on the material, but we also know that every student and their schedule will have different requirements. We recommend this because for some students, waiting too long between sessions can stunt progress, but for others, the extra time is exactly what they need. Flexibility is a cornerstone of our program, it depends on what works best for your family and student.
Between sessions, we expect students to dedicate 1-2 hours on assigned homework. This work is meant to reinforce what was covered in the session and help students make the most of their instruction. We’re here to help, but please understand that tutoring is a personal investment of your time and energy. It’s important that you take it seriously if you’re hoping to maximize gains.
