A Proven Track Record of Score Improvements

SAT Score Improvements

The chart shows our average SAT score improvements for the Classes of 2021 to 2025. Score improvement is calculated from an initial baseline score to a final official score as reported by the student. All baseline tests administered by Marks Education are official SATs released by the College Board.

A graph detailing Marks Education students increase in score improvements for the SAT from 2021-2025. In 2025, it was an average of 166 points.

Average Improvement of Incoming Scores

The table shows score improvements from all students from the classes of 2023 to 2025 who tutored with us for six or more sessions. Score improvement is calculated from an initial baseline score to a final official score as reported by the student.

For example, a student whose 11th grade PSAT score was a combined 1150 (out of 1520) improved an average of 196 points to 1336 (out of 1600).

Score Improvement is contingent on full participation with homework and attendance for group classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many official SATs should I take?

The number of tests a student takes will depend on their baseline score, score objectives and schedule.  Generally, we advise students to take an official test at least twice. Many students benefit from “superscoring” meaning their final test score is comprised of the highest section scores from different test dates. Although we encourage all students to do a practice proctored test before taking their official test, many students still benefit from the ‘real world’ experience of an official test and feel more relaxed the second time they take it when they know exactly what to expect. Your tutor will discuss with you how many tests they think you should target.

What is superscoring?

Superscoring allows students to combine the highest section scores from different test dates to create a new final score.  Most colleges in the United States accept superscoring, and superscoring can be an important component of a successful test preparation strategy.

Should I take a baseline test?

Baseline tests are usually taken before tutoring begins. Baseline scores help tutors identify areas of strengths and challenges for students and thus pinpoint areas of focus for tutoring sessions.  In addition, baseline scores help tutors assess realistic score objectives and test dates to target.

If you have already taken a baseline test or an official test before coming to Marks Education, please let your tutor know.  We can use baseline tests from other companies and official test scores can always serve as baselines.

How many practice tests do I need to take?

In addition to a baseline test, students should take at least one full proctored practice test before their official test. Many students will elect to take more than one practice test.  We offer free proctored tests almost every weekend of the year.

How much homework will I get?

On average, tutors will assign between 2-3 hours of homework per class.  Homework will include pages in our workbooks as well as practice test sections.
